Among the many Chinese-style pastry shops that have emerged across China over the past decade or so, Bao's Pastry is definitely one of the more prominent names. The brand is widely known for popularizing pork floss pastries, especially its signature pork floss cake.
One thing I like about Bao's Pastry is that it doesn’t simply stick to its old favorites. The brand keeps coming up with new products and trying different flavors. To be honest, I’ve tried some of its previous new releases, and they were pretty average. 😂 But I still can’t resist trying the new ones whenever they come out.
Bao's Pastry has just launched a new product, perfectly catching the springtime matcha trend: the Matcha Floss Pastry. Luckily, there was no line today, so I grabbed a box to try right away. ❤️

👩🍳 Service
As for the service, I’d say it’s pretty average. There is often a queue, especially during busy periods or weekends. The service attitude can also be inconsistent. Sometimes, the staff can make you feel like they are trying to hurry you along, which isn’t the most pleasant experience.
🥮 Taste Experience
A box costs ¥15 and includes four pieces. Although the advertisement shows perfectly round pastries, the actual ones vary in shape and look kind of funny. 😅
The entire pastry is green and coated with pork floss. Once you bite into it, you can see the distinct layers: sponge cake – matcha cream – sponge cake.

The flavor is a mix of sweet and salty, with a hint of matcha bitterness. It’s not particularly unique, and honestly, one person can probably handle at most two pieces before it starts to feel a little too heavy.

📚 Overall Experience
The taste is decent and worth trying once for the novelty, but it’s not something I would go out of my way to buy again.
However, this shop is actually well known for its signature pork floss pastry, so if you’re visiting Dongmen, it’s definitely worth stopping by to try the classic one. Also, Bao's Pastry has many branches in shopping malls, so you may come across one while exploring other parts of Shenzhen. You don’t necessarily need to make a special trip to Dongmen just to find one.
