There are so many pastry shops like this in Shenzhen that, honestly, they can sometimes start to feel a little too similar. Many of them offer the same kinds of cute, creamy, and Instagram-friendly desserts, so after seeing so many of them, I don’t always find them particularly exciting anymore.
That’s actually why I didn’t specifically plan to visit Xiang Shan Pastry (象山酥院). I simply happened to walk past the shop and decided to give it a try. Sometimes, the places you discover by chance turn out to be more interesting than the ones you deliberately seek out. So, let’s see what I thought of this one!

Thick Milk Pudding Cake
Their signature Thick Milk Pudding Cake is a must-try. For just RMB 12.3, you get two flavors — original and matcha — which works out to only about RMB 6 per piece. That’s pretty affordable for a dessert like this!
The cake has a soft, fluffy texture, while the center is filled with smooth, silky pudding. Every bite is rich, fragrant, and practically melts in your mouth.
I shared it with my parents, and they both loved it!

📚Overall Experience
At first glance, Xiang Shan Pastry looks pretty ordinary, especially compared with the many similar pastry shops around Shenzhen. But after trying it, I was actually a little surprised. The pudding cake was soft, creamy, and genuinely delicious, and considering the price, I thought it offered pretty good value for money.
Some of the other desserts also look tempting, and the second-item half-price promotion makes them even more affordable. 👍
I probably wouldn’t make a special trip here just for the desserts. There are simply too many pastry shops in Shenzhen offering very similar products, and this one didn’t leave me with a strong enough impression to make me want to come back specifically.
So, if you happen to walk past Xiang Shan Pastry and are curious, I’d say it’s worth trying. You might be surprised, especially given the price. But I wouldn’t recommend making a special trip just to visit this shop.
