For the older generation in Shenzhen, Yuhua Western Restaurant(雨花西餐厅) is a name full of nostalgia and prestige. When my dad heard I was visiting Yuhua, he excitedly told me stories about discussing business here back in the day.
Today, I finally had the chance to step into this restaurant that has witnessed Shenzhen’s history and experience the 90s glamour my parents once knew.

🗺️ Location & First Impressions
The restaurant is located diagonally across from King Glory Plaza. The entrance doesn’t look particularly eye‑catching, but once you walk up the corner staircase from the first floor, a massive sailboat decoration immediately comes into view.
There is a large wall painting displaying photos of celebrities who have visited over the years.

Even when I reached the second‑floor entrance, I still thought it was just an ordinary restaurant — until I stepped inside and was genuinely surprised.

✨ Interior — Low‑Key Retro Elegance
The interior exudes a quiet, vintage charm.
Rows of wine bottles fill lake‑blue wooden shelves. A giant flower‑shaped floor lamp glows softly. Brown‑gray ceiling fans hang from a ceiling painted with layered circular patterns, creating a cavern‑like sense of height.

Clusters of greenery and fresh flowers, bronze ornaments, and colorful stained‑glass table lamps add a touch of refined luxury to the retro atmosphere.

🥩 My 90‑Minute Set — Angus Steak + Foie Gras
For my set meal, I chose the Angus steak with foie gras, cooked medium. The plating was thoughtful, and the steak was seared perfectly — tender and melt‑in‑your‑mouth.
The foie gras was served on top of a piece of crispy toasted bread. When dipped together into the accompanying cheese sauce, the flavor was incredibly rich and delicious.

🍣 Limited‑Order Dish — Salmon Tartare
For the limited‑order appetizer, I chose the fresh salmon tartare. I originally thought it would come with a crispy tart shell, but it was served on quinoa instead.

Personally, I found it average — the quinoa scattered easily when scooped, and the salmon and fruit on top had a very light flavor that didn’t blend particularly well.
☕ Drink — Butter Cheese Coffee
I ordered the butter cheese coffee. Remember to stir it before drinking, or it will taste too sweet toward the end.
The butter cheese adds a rich, creamy aroma that pairs nicely with the coffee. (I believe this made popular by Harry Potter?)

🍽️ Buffet‑Style Items
From the buffet section, I chose:
Avocado sausage salad
Garlic oyster (which I later realized was mistakenly served as scallops)
Vanilla ice cream
The overall flavors were fairly standard. Sausage in the salad wasn’t great, but the greens were fresh and the dressing was refreshing.
Scallop seasoning was average. Ice cream was way too sweet for me.

📚Overall Impression
The atmosphere here is undeniably charming. The limited‑order steak is definitely worth trying, though the buffet items could use some improvement in quality.
When I visited, many couples and business diners were enjoying their meals. Across from the entrance is a VIP area with elegantly decorated private rooms — perfect for birthdays, Valentine’s Day, family gatherings, or company dinners.

🌿 Suggestions & Final Thoughts
I do think the entrance on the first floor could use some maintenance — the plants outside were yellowing and hadn’t been cleaned(There was even a dead cockroach on the umbrella dryer). If the restaurant wants to attract more customers, improving the entrance and enhancing food quality would make a big difference.
Still, I genuinely like this place. I hope to bring my parents here someday so they can relive their memories.
