A Flavor‑Packed Hotpot Experience with Nine‑Grid Platters and Exceptional Service in Shenzhen

This was my first time seeing a hotpot restaurant offering such an incredibly rich variety of ingredients. We ordered the clear broth pot, which came with mushrooms, tomatoes, and cucumber. It looked so appetizing the moment it arrived. Although this restaurant is known for its traditional spicy hotpot, the clear broth turned out to be surprisingly delicious as well.

Best Lychee Wood Roast Chicken in Bantian? This Popular Local Spot Is Packed Every Night

Cheryl Kong | 2026-05-20

There is a roast chicken restaurant(Shao Nian Kao Ji) that local people in Bantian keep recommending. Let's see if it really lives up to the hype!

🗺️ Located 220 meters from Exit A2 of Shenzhen Metro Line 10’s Guangyayuan Station.

🚘Parking spaces are limited and we had to park beside the road, so driving here may not be the most convenient option. Even so, the place gets crowded very quickly. Not long after opening, most of the seats were already occupied and many cars were already parked at the entrance.

🌲Environment

The restaurant has a classic Chinese street-food style atmosphere. The environment itself is fairly simple, but it has a lively local vibe that makes the experience feel authentic and energetic.

Right at the entrance, you can see stacks of lychee wood and a large roasting oven, which adds a lot to the atmosphere. One of the fun parts is being able to watch the roast chickens come straight out of the oven. There’s also a small convenience store inside selling different alcoholic drinks and beverages.

🍛Food

Lychee Wood Roast Chicken(Signature Item)

The roast chicken was smelling good, and the skin was crispy. However, the meat itself was a bit dry. Although the resturant claimed that they used lychee wood on this, but I don't see any difference.

Salt-Boiled Peanuts and Braised Chicken Feet

The peanuts were very flavorful, while keeping a nice crunchy texture. The chicken feet tasted pretty average and didn’t have much meat on them, which made the whole texture a bit dull.

Fried Rice Noodles

Highly recommended! The portion was generous, and the noodles had a pleasantly dry texture instead of being oily or soggy. The seasoning was also flavorful, and you can choose your preferred spice level. (😝 I forgot to take the picture.)

Grilled Pork Belly

We ordered the pork belly skewers, and the slices were large with a good balance of fat and lean meat. The texture was tender and juicy.

📚Overall

The food was good but not that impressive. The atmosphere makes it a great place for late-night gatherings with friends or family. 🍺 If you’re planning to visit, it’s better to arrive early. Otherwise, you’ll probably have to wait for a table.
